How To Find The Location Of The Leak?
Finding the exact leak location is vital. You need to shut off the spa before starting to search for the leak. You may need tape and a temporary marker handy so as to mark the location of the leak.
Under Water Leak
In case of underwater leaks, where the leak is under the waterline, you may see bubbles coming from the hole which can lead you to the location of the leak. You can place a piece of tape in the location so that it can make you remember the location when you start the repair.
Above Water Leak
Leaks above the waterline (top of the tub or outside the tub) are difficult to find out. In such cases, you may need a spray bottle with a soap solution in water. You need to work slowly in sections. Spray the soap solution at the tub and look for the location where the solution bubbles. Confirm by spraying more soap solution in the location. Mark the location with a marker or tape. Once you have accurately found the location of the leak, proceed with the following steps so as to achieve the repair of the same.
Repairing the Leak
Once you have accurately located the area of the leak, you need to perform the repair as soon as possible.
Spa Repair For Inflatable Cover (PVC Part)
If the spa is torn or punctured, you may make use of the provided heavy-duty underwater adhesive repair patch. The adhesive repair patch already provided with the product makes the repair work swifter.
Follow the below steps to fix the problem.
- Clean and dry area to be repaired.
You need to clean the leak location before applying the patch. Look for any debris tiny glass pieces or plastic bits, etc. Make sure they are removed. You can also make sure that the location is clean by scratching the area with your fingernail so as to make sure that nothing is left stuck in the hole. Be careful not to hurt yourself with anything sharp which might be present in the site. If you have used soap solution for locating the leak, then clean that too and dry the area thoroughly so that there is no residue left over which can hinder the adhesion of the patch in the repair kit.
- Apply the Repair Patch
Now you need to take the patch provided in the repair kit. Peel the patch carefully and press the patch over the area to be repaired. Now, wait for 30 minutes before inflation. This is necessary so as to ensure that the patch is cured and proper adhesion is the key to proper repair. Or else, your effort may go in vain. It is always good to wait a bit more. Say for about a day so that the patch properly adheres to the leaking surface.
For Spa Liner (Tritech PVC material)
If the spa is torn or punctured you may make use of the provided PVC repair patch and glue to solve the issue. Note that glue is needed separately and is not included in the kit.
Follow the below steps to fix the problem.
- Clean and dry the area to be repaired
As mentioned before, once the location of the leak is determined, you need to clean the location. Look for any possible debris in the location. There can be tiny plastic or glass bits present. Remove them with care so that you are not hurt. Clean the soap solution if present and dry the area.
- Apply the PVC repair patch
You need to find the size of the patch required based on the leak dimensions. Then take out the PVC patch provided in the repair kit. Cut the PVC patch to the required size. Apply glue on one side of the PVC patch that you have cut. The glue should be evenly distributed. Make sure of the same. Wait for about 30 seconds before applying the patch. After that, you need to apply the cut patch with glue over the location of the leak. Look for any bubbles that may have been trapped underneath. If present, smooth out the bubbles and you need to press firmly for about 2 minutes. Now you are done with the repair. Wait for 30 minutes before inflation. This will ensure that the patch adheres to the leak area correctly and the patch is cured.
If any leaks occur in the future, you need to repeat the above procedure properly.
